I installed HP Smart and my new Envy Inspire 7955e. "Smart" tells me I can scan more than one item and get a separate file for each item. Sounds good, but so far I have not seen HOW to do this.

 

I have an old photo album that has six small photos on each page. I place a page on the scanner surface, scan it, and get one new photo of the album page. I can't find any setting to trigger the output of six separate photos. I get the impression that Multi-Item Recognition works with my smart phone, but not with the HP Smart scanner and my PC. What am I missing?

It is likely you are missing the full driver printer software.

What?

There are a multitude of applications and software that can be used with your printer.

 

Two main candidates:

  • HP Smart Application
  • Full Feature Software / full driver printer software

 

The full driver includes HP Scan.

HP Scan can scan more than one image / photo on the flatbed (glass) of your printer and create a separate file of each photo.

Installation Package - Information and Download / Save

 

  • Open  Home Page - HP Easy Start >> Click to open Category Software and Drivers 
  • Download and Save the current version of the Easy Start Software installation package  to install your print software

If you want to install the full driver printer software, choose the "Full Software and Drivers" option during the Easy Start installation procedure.

Reminder

Make sure each photo is separated from the one next to it by about an inch so the software can detect the image boundary.

Good Saturday morning, Dragon-Fur. I jumped right into installing the full-feature software as you recommended and soon ran into another weird snag. An alert popped up to tell me that my computer and printer are connected to different routers.

That's odd, because I have just one router: an Xfinity xFi gateway. No doubt, I haven't looked in all the right places, but so far it seems that information has to be incorrect. The control panel display on my printer and the settings on my laptop say that—by name, at least—they both use the same connection. I searched for answers in this community and read that the problem might be that my laptop might be on the 2.4 GHz band and the printer on the 5 GHz band. I went into the Admin site for my network and saw that all my devices connect to the 5 GHz band. The only exception: my Samsung TV. 

 

I had earlier installed the printer with HP Smart. Perhaps I should just uninstall all my printer software—HP Smart and all—and start over ... ? If I start over and install the full-feature software package, will I get HP Smart with that installation, or is HP Smart a separate thing?

 

By the way, I took these questions about the router connection to the community here, but I've gotten no replies so far.

Good Morning.

 

"Different" networks means that the printer cannot communicate with either the router or the other devices in your local network.

 

The information might be "incorrect" but it has to be handled as if the printer and the router know where and how they are connected to the network.

 

If you have not done so,

Try / Consider

  • Make sure your router is broadcasting on both the 2.4GHz and the 5GHz frequencies.
  • If supported by the router, it is important that each frequency / band be assigned its own SSID named network.
  • Connect the printer to the SSID named network that you want it to use.
  • If you are convinced "all is well", Restart everything, including the router that controls the network.

If you are using DHCP, know that the router can change the IP address of the devices it manages -- printers generally handle DHCP fairly well, though in some situations it is simply easier (and better) to assign a manual / static IP address to the printer and be done with the changing environment.
