My trusty old HP 3050J611 won't copy. Has been working just fine until this morning. Is there anything that I can do to get it to make copies, or, due to its age, is it ready for retirement? It still seems to print ok, just the copy problem.
Thanks for your input

Hi @Shade2019,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I see that you are facing an issue with your printer that does not copy.
A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.
1) Take out the cartridges
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

Thanks Irwin for your response and help. I had found the cause of my problem, and I feel stupid. I had installed a new black ink cartridge and forgot to remove a piece of tape that covered the contacts. Well, as soon as removed the cartridge I found the tape in place, removed it and everything works fine. I will save you recommendations just in case I need help in the future.
One strange thing I'm having problems with and maybe you might have a solution. I have the printer connected via USB to my laptop. When I run Print and Scan doctor SW it has difficulty finding the printer; then takes forever to try to fix a problem, and in this case never indicated the problem was the black ink cartridge. I'm using the latest version of the app. Do you have any ideas on what may be causing this? Normally, the app works really well.
Thanks

Irwin, I can't find Print and Scan Doctor in Apps and Features on Windows 10, and it doesn't appear as an app in the Control Panel. It does exist on the "C" drive under HP diagnostics. I did click on the link and downloaded and installed the latest version, which was already installed. I've did a scan and the SW app seems to be working better. One strange thing with the other installed app, after finding the printer, which took more time than you would think. It took lots of time to get to the next step "fix printing or scan", I opened help and clicked on "check got updates" and it told me I had the latest version and then immediately the app responded and took me to the questions on what do I want to fix.
Thanks for your time and help
