Same issue and apparently this is a HP issue as I see a number of post about the same problem on various types of printers.  I am honestly sick of it and this will be my last HP printer.

I've had this happen multiple times. My printer is about a year old and I can't rely on it when I need to scan to clients, etc. I guess I need to buy an Epson or ? I'm sick of this.

Same here. If you search this issue you will see this is an issue for various models of their printers.  I scanned several new in box HP Printers while at Best Buy yesterday and the feedback/ratings were all about the scanner issues saying unable to connect to server.  This tells me the issue isn't with the laptop or desk tops the printers are connected to as suggest by HP but with the HP server itself.  They have the nerves to want $150 to troubleshoot this issue.  Might as well buy a new one for that price.  I am over it.  Epson or Canon here I come.
