Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

HP Officejet 3830 all-in-one
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Had a heck of a time getting this all-in-one to work, both printing and now scanner. It will not install. All of the troubleshooters that HP has, they either time out or don't help. I have run the printer/scanner doctor so many times it refuses to help. It says it can't talk to the printer/scanner. I'm so depressed.

@earlisaloser, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are not able to scan and print from the computer. Are you trying to use the HP Smart app?

First, try making a standalone copy from the flatbed glass and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

How is the printer connected to the computer?

Check the connectivity

If wireless,

  • Restart the router, the printer, and the PC
  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.

Click here to download the HP Full-feature driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Try to print and scan.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
