Microsoft Windows 11

When I scan a photo using HP Scan, and then edit the JPG file using the MS Photos app, the "Save" option is grayed out.  The only option available is "Save as copy".  I'd like to be able to save it without changing the filename.  Am I missing something?

Hi @WWW-NJ,

If the "Save" option is grayed out when editing a JPG file using the MS Photos app after scanning it with HP Scan on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw, it may be due to file permission or compatibility settings. Here are a few steps you can take to resolve this issue:

Check File Permissions

Ensure that the JPG file permissions allow you to modify and save changes:

  • Right-click on the JPG file and select Properties.
  • Go to the Security tab.
  • Ensure your user account has full permissions to modify, write, and read the file.

Update MS Photos App

Ensure you have the latest version of the MS Photos app as updates can resolve compatibility issues:

  • Open the Microsoft Store.
  • Click on Library.
  • Check for updates and install any updates available for the MS Photos app.

Edit File from a Different Location

Sometimes the file location can affect the ability to save changes. Try moving the JPG file to a different folder and then edit it:

  • Move the JPG file to your Documents folder or another location.
  • Open the file from the new location with the MS Photos app and attempt to save changes.

Check Format Compatibility

Ensure the scanned JPG file is compatible with the MS Photos app:

  • Open the JPG file with another photo editing software (e.g., Paint, GIMP).
  • Save the file with the same JPG format.
  • Open the file again in the MS Photos app and attempt to save changes.

Reinstall MS Photos App

Reinstalling the MS Photos app can sometimes resolve permission issues:

  • Open Settings from the Start Menu.
  • Go to Apps > Installed apps.
  • Find MS Photos and click on Uninstall.
  • Reinstall the MS Photos app from the Microsoft Store.

Convert File Format

Converting the JPG file format to another image format (PNG or BMP), editing it, and converting it back to JPG might resolve the issue:

  • Open the JPG file in the MS Photos app.
  • Save the file as PNG or BMP.
  • Edit and save the changes.
  • Convert the file back to JPG if needed.

Let me know how it goes.
