HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Cannot scan multiply pages.

When I scan a 5 page document I only get the first page and the other four pages are blank. I have tried scanning on the glass and the automatic feeder with the same results.

Any help I can get would be appreciated.

Thanks Bevmic

@Bevmic, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 is experiencing issues with scanning multiple pages, resulting in only the first page being scanned and the others appearing blank, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

1. Check Document Alignment:

  • Ensure that your documents are properly aligned and loaded correctly in the automatic document feeder (ADF) or on the scanner glass.
  • If using the ADF, ensure the stack of documents is face-up with the top of the first page aligned correctly.

2. Clean the Scanner:

  • Dirt or smudges on the scanner glass or the ADF glass strip can lead to scanning issues. Clean both surfaces with a lint-free cloth moistened with non-abrasive glass cleaner.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners that could damage the scanner glass.

3. Adjust Scan Settings:

  • Check the scan settings in the printer software to ensure they are configured correctly for multi-page scanning. Make sure the resolution settings are appropriate for the documents being scanned.
  • Verify that the scan mode is set to handle multiple pages.

4. Check for Software Updates:

  • Ensure your printer software and drivers are up-to-date. You can download the latest drivers and software from the HP support website.
  • Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve issues related to scanning and copying.

5. Use HP Scan and Capture Software:

  • Try using the HP Scan and Capture software to see if the issue persists. This software is designed for easy scanning and might offer better control over scanning processes.

6. Verify Scanner Configuration:

  • Check that any settings related to color detection or page size are configured correctly, as improper settings could lead to scanning issues.
  • If you’ve manually adjusted settings, reset them to default to see if it makes a difference.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
