Changing paper size setting for main tray

Somehow the paper size setting for the main tray was changed to 4X6.  How can I change it back to 8 1/2 X 11?

Welcome to the HP User Community.

How you adjust the Paper Size & Type depends on the printer model.

In general,

Open the printer tray - wait a few seconds - Close the tray

If the printer includes a printer control panel, look for a message to edit / accept the paper size and type.

The following example covers the basics, including how to use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to adjust the paper size and type for printers that do not have a printer control panel.

Thank you for all the detailed information at the bottom of your proposed solution. However, with great relief, I didn't have to navigate it. Your first suggestion of opening the main tray & letting it sit for a few was the answer! The control panel finally displayed an option ">" to change the size to 8 1/2 X 11!  Thank you SO much! How simple.
