Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

Good morning.

I am attempting to deploy 2x OfficeJet 250 and am running into an issue with the destination folder for scanned documents when the scan was originated on the scanner using the Scan to PC functionality.

While the OS is Win11, we are not making use of the HP Smart app as there are aspects of using it that are unpalatable for the use cases for these devices. We are instead using the "Installation Software and Full/Basic Driver-Supports print and scan functionality only" package e.g. Full_Webpack-40.16.1234_1-OJ250_Full_Webpack.exe. This package installs two applications: "HP OfficeJet 250 Mobile Series" and "HP TWAIN Administration", and as best I can tell, neither of these applications offers a setting to configure the scan destination folder. The OfficeJet is connected to the PC using USB, and will only ever be connected to anything with USB.

The printer and scanner functions are working correctly including the Scan to PC function starting on the OfficeJet's touchscreen, however, it scans automatically to the user's Documents folder path, which is undesirable in our use case because that path is a network location and may not always be reachable in our use cases for these printers/scanners.

Has anyone sorted out a way to change the destination folder without needing to use the other HP apps to do it? The driver suite that has been installed is completing the computer end of the scan process when the Scan to PC feature is used, so there must be a setting somewhere...even if it's buried in a config file that isn't usually seen by the user.

I understand your HP OfficeJet 250 Scan to PC saving scans to the Documents folder when using the full driver package. Let’s go through a few checks.

Verify Scan to Computer Settings in HP Printer Assistant

  • Open HP OfficeJet 250 Mobile Series from the Windows Start menu.
  • Select Scan in the main dashboard.
  • Click Manage Scan to Computer.
  • Confirm that Enable Scan to Computer is turned on.
  • Select Save Settings if prompted.

Note: This menu enables the service that receives scans initiated from the printer panel.

Adjust the Scan Destination Using HP Scan

  • Open HP OfficeJet 250 Mobile Series.
  • Click Scan a Document or Photo.
  • Select Scan Shortcuts from the left panel.
  • Choose the shortcut used for Scan to Computer.
  • Change the Save Location field to the desired local folder.
  • Note: The destination folder is tied to the scan shortcut used by the device.

Create a New Local Scan Folder

  • Open File Explorer on the computer.
  • Create a folder such as C:\LocalScans or another accessible local path.
  • Return to HP OfficeJet 250 Mobile Series > Scan Shortcuts.
  • Select Save Location and browse to the new folder.
  • Save the updated shortcut configuration.

Check TWAIN Scan Configuration

  • Open HP TWAIN Administration from the Start menu.
  • Locate the Scan to Computer configuration section.
  • Confirm the computer name listed matches the local system.
  • Verify the scan profile being used by the printer.
  • Apply changes and restart the application if modifications are made.

Restart the Scan-to-PC Service

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Locate HP Network Devices Support or similar HP scan service.
  • Right-click the service and select Restart.
  • Turn the printer off and back on.
  • Perform a test scan from the printer touchscreen.

Note: If the scan destination continues to default to the Windows Documents path, the driver package may be using the Windows user profile default for Scan-to-PC jobs. In that case, updating the Scan Shortcut save location is the supported method for redirecting the output folder.

I hope this helps.

Hi @Kuroi_Kenshi,

Your directions did get me to the right spot, however the exact steps were subtly different:

OfficeJet 250 Mobile Series -> Print & Scan tab -> Scan tab -> Scan a document or photo -> Save as PDF -> click More -> Destination section

Regardless of the differences this did solve my problem. Thank you!
