Connection Problem

HP OfficeJet Pro 8720

Using a Mac OS 11.1 (Big Sur) and an HP OfficeJet Pro 8720, I'm attempting to scan but receive the message that there is a "Connection Problem." It then states that the HP is unable to connect to the "shared fold name." It lists a router network number. 


I don't know if the router number is the problem, and if it is, what to do about it. 


I appreciate any suggestions you might have.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are unable to scan and getting an error.


Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.


Are you able to make a copy?

Are the printer and Mac computer connected to the same network?

Have you tried using the HP Smart App?


Meanwhile, I recommend you remove the printer from the below computer and then download the driver from the below link and then add the printer again and check.


Here is how it is done.

  1. After the software downloads, open HP Easy Start.
  2. Click File, and then select Uninstall HP Software... from the menu.
    Figure : Select Uninstall HP Software.
  3. Read any warnings that display, and then click Continue.
  4. When prompted, type your administrator user name and password.
  5. HP Uninstaller removes all HP printer software previously installed.
  6. If you are reinstalling the HP printer software, click Set Up New Device, and then follow the instructions to install the printer with HP EasyStart.
