Envy 6020
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I recently acquired a HP Envy 6020 printer. I keep my printer ON at all times.

I understand that when it is not in actual use, it saves energy (I guess) by not lighting up the Control Panel. But I seem to have this issue that when I want to make a photocopy from the printer,  it does not enable me access to the photocopying button since the Control Panel is not lighted up. In fact, the only button that is lighted up (all the time) is the blue Wifi button indicating that its connected to the laptop.

What do I need to do, other than turning the printer off and then on again to access a lighted up Control Panel?

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

If the issue persists, follow the next steps. Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
