HP Laserjet Pro MFP M28w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My printer doesn't copy although wifi, scan and print work fine. Model: HP Laserjet Pro MFP M28w. This happened early this year after four months without using the copy function. Did replaced the laser cartridge early this year. I've tried uninstall and reinstall the driver recently. But still not copying. Is this a software problem or a hardware failure?

Thanks in advance,

JJ

This looks like a hardware issue with the printer. Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

@JJ202008, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

The copy function is not related to printer drivers. Reinstalling the driver will not help. Are you sure you are able to scan?

Scan and copy use the same mechanism.

What happens when you try to make a copy?

Do you get any errors or do you get a blank page as output?

For now, reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Update the printer firmware

Try making a copy.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi KUMAR0307,
Thank you for your reply! I just completed what you suggested. The problem remains. To answer your previous questions:
1. I can scan and print with no issues using either wifi or USB. This is a direct copying. I thought I could just plug the power on and copy without anything else. Am I right?
2. This is what happened when I try to make a copy: (1) After the firmware was updated, the control pannel looked normal. The number-of-copy window showed "01"; (2) But I could neither increase the number of copy nor edit the copy darkness using these edit buttons; (3) I did try to press the copy button to see if I could just copy one page. But it didn't copy; (4) After about 60 seconds, the "01" number disappeared from the display window (see photo below) and never came back unless I restart the printer.

Please take a look and let me know what else I need to try.

Thanks again,

JJ
