Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

I have used this printer to scan and crop many photos to save to my desktop computer.  Now suddenly when I scan the photo, crop it, and click done, it won't save the cropped image.  It goes back to the original uncropped scanned image.  Is this because of an upgrade to the app?  How can I get it to do what I want it to again?  Thanks

Might be due to an update - there have been numerous reports of the crop function falling into a pile of rubble.

Presumably, the following works for at least some people:

Uninstall the app from Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

Restart the computer and log in

"Get" a new copy of the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store

What else?

If you have not done so, consider installing the update for the printer Firmware.

At this writing, the current update is marked "Critical"

Reminder:  Always read the description and any other sections before installing Firmware.

HP Officejet 6950/6960/Pro 6960/Pro 6970 All-in-One Printer series Firmware Update

and

If you have not done so, download-save-install the Full Feature Software for the printer

HP OfficeJet 6960 All-in-One series Full Feature Software and Drivers

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Full driver provides print and scan functions (even if HP Smart continues to be stubborn).

Try using "Detect Photos" or, for documents, "Detect Content on Page" to control what is scanned.

Right.

What else?

What about the rest of us?

For now, use a different application to scan / crop.

Example

HP Scan and Capture - Microsoft Store (formally Windows Store) - Requires Windows 8 or higher
