Hi all,

I have set up the Scan to Computer functionality on my printer / scanner but want to know how I can see / change the settings it is using.  When I try to use this option on the printer's screen I actually see two different ways of scanning to my computer as in this image :

If anyone can tell me how I have ended up with these two options that would be great.  However if I select the first option ,"GUYS_DESKTOP", then it gives me the chance to choose a shortcut to use for my scanning settings ("Save as pdf", "Save as jpg" etc.), which I know I am able to customize elsewhere.   However if I use the second option, "Scan to Guys_Desktop", I get no options, it just scans an image and I get what I get.  It would seem that I should just always use the first option for greater control but, and I know this is a bit subjective, I pretty much always find the results from second option are truer to the original - no matter how much I tweak the settings I use for the other option.  However I don't want to rely on the second option as I have no idea what it is doing and no way to customize it when I am not happy with the results.  Does anyone know what settings it uses and how I can see or edit them?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @GRCC,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with multiple scan options on your Printer.

Unfortunately, there should be only one option available with the scan settings when you select the device to which it has to scan.

However, I see that the other option would have got added accidentally and the settings for the 2nd device option will be the same as default for the 1st one.

If you would still like to remove one of them, refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.

@Irwin6 thankyou for your reply.   I am, however, reluctant to follow your advice and perform a factory reset as I may end up with only the first of the two options, which, as I mentioned, produces worse scans, or only the second, which I can't seem to customize.  Also, you mentioned that the two options should be using the same settings but I really don't see how that can be the case.  When I select the second option, "Scan to Guys_Desktop", I am presented with this screen:

And the scan completes shortly after I press the "Start Scan" button. However when I choose the first option, "GUYS_DESKTOP", I am presented with this instead:

Here I am able to select different shortcuts before I start the scan like so:

Consequently it seems "Scan to Guys_Desktop" *can't* be the same.  I suppose it could be the same as *one* of those shortcuts but, like I said, I get noticeably different results when comparing an image scanned with "Scan to Guys_Desktop", to the same image scanned with each of the shortcuts available in "GUYS_DESKTOP".  Is there anyway to see or customize the settings being used by the "Scan to Guys_Desktop" option?

Hi @GRCC,

Unfortunately, there is no way to customize or see the options if they are not available on the screen.

The best way to fix this will be restoring the printer to factory defaults to get those options to customize with one printer listed.
