HP 6970
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I'm using a HP 6970 and trying to scan double sided from the document feeder. It starts scanning fine each time, but partway through (about 4 or 5 pages in) it fails.

The message in the message centre is: "HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 is currently unavailable. Ensure your device is powered on, check the connection, and ensure your network is functioning properly. If these conditions are correct, restart the device and try scanning again."

The printer is still on though and there's no issues with the network.

Any suggestions as to how to correct would be most welcome!

Hi Kumar

Already solved - updated the drivers and it did the trick.

Didn't realise they weren't updating automatically...

Thanks for your response anyway.

Hi @Graeme77

Welcome to the HP Support Community. To assist you better, I would like to know the following:

Which application are you using to scan from your MAC?

How is the printer connected to the MAC?

For now, let us try these steps:

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest firmware from your MAC.

Try scanning.
