Hi @Co0ps1e,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your document feeder is squeaking and failing to function properly when scanning, it could be due to a few common issues. Here’s how to troubleshoot the problem:

Troubleshooting Steps

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Open the document feeder and inspect for any paper jams or debris. Remove any stuck paper carefully.

Clean the Feed Rollers:

  • Dust and debris can accumulate on the rollers, causing squeaking and feeding issues. Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water to clean the rollers.

Inspect for Wear and Tear:

  • Check the rollers for any signs of wear or damage. If they are worn down, they may need to be replaced.

Use the Right Paper:

  • Ensure you’re using the correct type and weight of paper. Avoid using wrinkled, torn, or too thick paper, as these can cause feeding problems.

Adjust Paper Guides:

  • Make sure the paper guides in the feeder are adjusted to fit the size of the paper you’re using. If they are too tight or too loose, it can cause feeding issues.

Reduce Load:

  • If you’re loading too many sheets at once, try reducing the number of pages in the feeder. Most feeders work best with fewer sheets.

Lubrication:

  • If the squeaking persists, it may be due to the need for lubrication. However, be cautious—only use products specifically designed for printers, and avoid getting any lubricant on the rollers.

Run a Test Scan:

  • After performing these checks, run a test scan to see if the issue persists. If yes, it must be a hardware issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
