Not work in what way? Does it try to feed and fail or not try at all? Does copying work?

When I have a document in the feeder to scan and press the scan button, I can hear the rollers in the document feeder but the sheets of the document do not scan. On the other hand, when I place a document into the same feeder to copy and press the copy button, the sheets of the document are copied.
