Hi @ssandberg,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your scanned documents on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw printer. Poor document quality can be caused by various factors. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to try and resolve the issue.

  • Clean the scanner glass: Dust, smudges, or debris on the scanner glass can affect the quality of scanned documents. Use a clean, lint-free cloth and a mild glass cleaner to gently clean the scanner glass.
  • Check the document feeder: If you're using the automatic document feeder (ADF) to scan multiple pages, make sure it's clean and free from any debris. Even a small speck of dirt on the ADF can cause lines or streaks on scanned documents.
  • Adjust scanning settings: Check the scanning settings on your printer's control panel or in the scanning software on your computer. Make sure the settings are appropriate for the type of document you're scanning. For example, if you're scanning a text document, select a higher resolution and choose the appropriate color mode.
  • Update the printer firmware: Outdated firmware can sometimes cause scanning issues. Visit the HP support website and search for your printer model to check if there are any available firmware updates. If updates are available, follow the instructions provided to update your printer's firmware.
  • Use different scanning software: If you're scanning directly from a computer, try using different scanning software to see if the issue persists. Sometimes, the default scanning software may have limitations or compatibility issues. You can try using software like Adobe Acrobat or VueScan to scan your documents.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
