Microsoft Windows 11

I was scanning documents from my HP printer to my email. When typing the email recipient name it actually sent the email and attached documents to [personal information removed] by mistake.  Is that email seen by anyone because it had personal information in it? Very worried about getting hacked?

Hi @NurseML,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you've mistakenly sent sensitive information to the wrong email address, it's essential to take some immediate actions:

Contact the Recipient: Try to reach out to the unintended recipient as soon as possible, explain the situation, and kindly request them to delete the email and attachments.

Check Email Settings: Review your email settings to ensure that sensitive information is not automatically saved or shared without your consent. Update any security settings if necessary.

Change Passwords: Consider changing the password for your email account as a precautionary measure to prevent unauthorized access.

Monitor Account Activity: Regularly monitor your email account for any suspicious activity. If you notice anything unusual, report it to your email service provider.

Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): If you haven't already, enable two-factor authentication on your email account for an extra layer of security.

Be Cautious of Phishing Attempts: Be vigilant for phishing attempts or suspicious emails. Avoid clicking on any links or downloading attachments from unknown sources.

Notify Relevant Parties: If the information shared includes sensitive data about others, consider notifying them about the situation.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
