HP ENVY 4500

Hello all,

My HP Envy 4500 suddenly refused to copy. Scanner doesn’t work either (I suspect since you cannot scan therefore you cannot copy either). I have tried EVERYTHING... downloaded all the HP software (scan doctor, hp smart , etc)... tried restarting, resetting and different OS’s (MacOS, Windows 10, iOS and even scanning from the printer’s web interface). When I click copy (from the printer’s console) nothing happens. Printer has the latest firmware. Actually a couple of months ago I got a msg on the printer asking me to update the firmware to which I said yes; could that be the problem. The printer is in excellent condition, I cannot imagine I should just throw it out and buy a new one !!! It prints great and used to copy nicely, don’t know why its acting up. Please help.

Hi there... I made a very long post about my experience with this. But for some reason it got deleted or I can’t find it. Long story short, I know this sounds very strange, but what you need to do is unplug your printer hold it a few inches of the ground and let it drop to the ground or hard surface and then reconnect it again; through some miraculous black magic it seems to work.  I don’t know how or why, obviously something jittery in the body of the printer but the solution works. I have posted a link to a thread which describes this from other users as well but I don’t know why I cannot find the post again. Anyway it worked for me.

@mo_adel

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are unable to make a copy or scan.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

Are you getting any error message you try making a copy?

Meanwhile, I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps.

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  2. Remove USB cable, if present.
  3. Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  4. Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  5. Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

@mo_adel

It looks like a hardware issue and I recommend you contact support and check the available service options for your computer.

Here is how you can get in touch with support.

1)Click on this link – www.hp.com/contacthp/

2)Select the product type.

3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.

4)Select the country from the drop-down.

5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.

Cheers!
