Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

I have a Laserjet M234sdw. I would like to set up a default location for my scans to save to, but I cannot find a menu (location) where I can enter the pathway to the folder on my computer. This should be easy as pie, but HP has hidden the ability! Any suggestions?

Hi @Wilywayne11AZ

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

To set up a default location for scans from your HP LaserJet M234sdw printer, you will need to use HP's scanning software, such as HP Scan or HP Smart. Here's a general guide on how to do it:

Method 1: Set Default Save Location via HP Smart App (Windows)

  1. Open HP Smart on your PC.
  2. Click Scan.
  3. After scanning, click Save.
  4. In the save dialog, choose your preferred folder.
  5. Check the box that says “Always use this folder” (if available).

HP Smart doesn’t always retain this setting across sessions, so it’s more of a “last used” memory than a true default.

Method 2: Use HP Scan Software (More Control)

If you installed the full HP software suite, you should have access to HP Scan:

  1. Open HP Scan from your Start menu.
  2. Click Settings or Preferences.
  3. Under Save Location, browse and select your desired folder.
  4. Click Apply or OK.

This method offers more consistent control than HP Smart.

Method 3: Use Embedded Web Server (EWS) for Network Scans

If your printer is networked:

  1. Find your printer’s IP address (via control panel or HP Smart).
  2. Enter it into a browser to open the Embedded Web Server.
  3. Go to Scan > Scan to Network Folder.
  4. Add a new folder path (e.g., \\YourPCName\SharedFolder) and credentials.
  5. Save and test the scan.

This works best for shared folders on a local network and gives you true automation.

Keep me posted if you need any other clarification.
