2 common issues to check:

 

1. make sure that you are plugged into the correct connector. Most printers with fax have a line in and a jack to plug in an extension phone. One jack has a symbol that looks like a wall jack and the other will have a telephone on it. Plug into the jack connector

2. Make sure  your phone line actually works. Find an old analog phone and try to make and receive a call that way.
