Fax driver/printer NOT available in Windows printers list anymore

Despite installing the newest universal fax driver from HP (UFD_JEDI_PHASE7.1-7.1.122-HPUFDDriver), the HP Fax printer is not listed in the Windows printers list as it was the case after initially installing the printer. It disappeared silently probably after a Windows update. No reappearance possible since. How to make it show again?

In the HP Smart App the fax function works fine. Only the Fax driver/printer is not available anymore which worked easier and directer than the Smart App. I would love finding a solution.

Rather than depend on the Universal Fax driver,

Consider (re)installing the Full Driver Printer Software.

The full driver includes the software for the printer (for example, HP Printer Assistant and HP Scan) plus the full driver Fax driver software.

After the printer software is installed, check / manage the Default Printer

Printer Software

If you have not yet done so, install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software.

HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts.  The full driver generally adds at one, possibly least one, possibly two shortcuts to the Desktop: Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and/or HP Scan.

NOTES:  

HP Scan is not installed if the printer does not support Scan.

The Printer Assistant is not installed if the type of full driver software does not support it.  If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver.

No Sign-in required to use full driver printer software.

Reinstalling?

• Uninstall existing full driver printer software from Programs and Features.
• If your printer includes a separate "help" in Programs and Features, uninstall that, too.
• Restart the computer and log in.
• If the printer is connected to the computer using a printer USB cable, remove / disconnect the cable before loading the software.

In general, the web pack should load -

Download package > Save > Right-Click on the installation Package > Run as Administrator

If / When asked, opt for the Full Driver / Full Software to be installed.

Using USB?  (Re)Connect when instructed to do so.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

The installation of the full driver generally adds at least one or more shortcuts to the Desktop.

 Note:  Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and HP Scan are dependent on printer model and supported software options.

• Printer Assistant – Where still supported as part of the full driver printer software
• HP Scan – Shortcut on Desktop named for the printer model

OR

• HP Scan Assistant – For those printers that no longer provide the Printer Assistant
• HP Scan - Shortcut named for itself

AND / OR

• When installed, HP Universal Scan software adds a separate self-named “HP Scan” shortcut
• NOTE >> If you install the full driver printer software, installing HP Universal Scan as a standalone software from category Software & Drivers is not necessary.  The system will allow you to install both.

Printer Assistant shortcut > Tab Scan > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable

Here's what you need to do:

1. Disconnect printer/scanner from computer- Disable WLAN, WiFi and/or remove the USB or LAN cable.- Do not switch off the printer >> unplug the power cord from the socket!
2. Uninstall HP printer software, and then remove the printer from your Devices list  and uninstall HP Smart
3. Restart the PC
4. Close all programs
5. download only this complete package: HP Software – Offline Use Only 
6. Close all programs
7. Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo > in folder Downloads double-click on the EXE,
   File name: Full_Webpack-40.15.1230_1-OJ8720_Full_Webpack.exe (115.8 MB)
8. The installation was completed successfully, now you must ...
9. Restart the System again
10. you can install HP Smart later!
11. Now the installation is complete.

Document error messages accurately, even better is to take a screenshot of it and upload here.

Is the fax displayed again and does the fax test work without a problem?

Hello,

Thank you for the reply and help. I made progress. I followed the advice and installed the package. The fax driver is back and restored. However, now the printer driver was not there anymore. So I used the IP address of the printer to install it in the list of printers and it worked, but not as expected. It only installed the app driver not the printing printer driver, meaning it needs the SmartApp to print, which was the state before with the fax, when I could only fax by using the SmartApp. So I changed one solved problem for another similar one. How can I make the printer have a printer driver as before without the app? Probably it is due to using the IP address of the printer to activate it in the list of printers in Windows.

I have a small problem:
After the last reboot (without HP Smart), have you tested the fax and also the printing, e.g. via Adobe?

Have you also read the article by @Dragon-Fur ?
