My HP officejet Pro 6978 will not fax. Have went throught almost all testing. to find out where problem exist. Have recieve communication error 388 and also Fax componnet damage. Have not contact HP spoort as of yet. No other problems exixt print page page is outsatanding. Printer is out of warrenty

Error 388 indicates : Too much noise on the telephone line is preventing a valid connection between the fax machines. Retry the fax when line conditions improve.

The communication error was a minor problem. I recieved fax message on the fax componet being damage. Is there a solution for this.

HP Recommended

Perform a hard reset, which can resolve fax hardware issues. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet. Wait 60 seconds, reconnect the cord, and then try faxing again. 

 

I recommend you to contact the HP Support Team regarding this if the issue still persists.
