Product: Laser Jet Pro MFP M283fdw

This is an all on one printer/fax/copier. 

The fax function is on the same analog phone line as my land line phone. 

Occasionally the fax will "answer" in the middle of a regular phone call making it impossible to continue the conversation. 

How do I keep auto answer, but disable the answer function of there was no incoming call?

Welcome to the HP support community.

 

Configure the rings to answer setting on the printer

a. Turn the printer on.

b. From the control panel, open the Setup menu.

c. Select the Fax Setup menu.

d. Select the Basic Setup menu.

e. Select the Rings to Answer option.

f. Use the numeric keypad on the printer control panel to set the number of rings and then select OK.
