Hi all.

I cant scan via the HP Smart app. I have been told it should have a spanner icon in the botton left corner.

Which enables you to troubleshoot. Mine doesnt. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it. Still no spanner.

Any ideas.

Hi @lekyrog

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Here are the steps you can follow to troubleshoot scanning issues in the HP App on Windows:

Check Printer Connection

  • Ensure the printer is powered on and connected to the same Wi‑Fi network as your computer.
  • If using USB, confirm the cable is securely connected.

Verify Printer Setup in HP App

  • Open the HP App.
  • Confirm your printer is listed on the home screen.
  • If not, select Add Printer and follow the prompts to connect.

Run Diagnose & Fix

  • In the HP App, select your printer.
  • Look for the Diagnose & Fix option in the printer menu.
  • Run the tool to automatically detect and resolve common issues.

Check Windows Services

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Locate Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
  • Ensure the service is running and set to Automatic.

Update Drivers

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Imaging Devices.
  • Right‑click your printer/scanner and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for drivers.

Test Scanning

  • In the HP App, select Scan.
  • Try scanning a document to confirm functionality.

If the issue persists after these steps, reinstalling the HP App once more and ensuring Windows is fully updated can help stabilize the connection.
