Help!!  I've been struggling to hook up this printer all afternoon.  It wants its own network.  It goes offline when I try to troubleshoot.  This should not be that hard.  However, it does print.  I have 15 copies of the "Wireless Quick Start Guide."

Not what I expected from HP.

This printer is one of the new tech models that provides a PIN number that is used to help get the printer setup.

HP DeskJet, ENVY 6000, 6400 Printers - Wireless Printer Setup

This document is for HP DeskJet Plus Ink Advantage 6075, 6078, 6475, 6476, 6478, HP ENVY 6020, 6052, 6055, HP ENVY Pro 6420, 6452, 6455, and 6458 All-in-One printers.

First time setup – WPS (router), “Find Printer Pin” > PIN Number inside carriage door for connection / EWS

Add:  Deskjet Plus 4100 series

This printer also supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bandwidths.

Depending on which bandwidth you are trying to use, you may need to log into your router and make sure it is broadcasting on both bands.

User Guide

Start here - this printer uses lights of various types to communicate most of what it is thinking / doing.

Chapter 1 - Printer Parts / Display Lights - Starting on Page 1

Page 9 explains the enthusiasm for the Wireless guide that keeps printing....

Chapter 3 Connect your printer - Starting on Page 21

There are several methods explained, including using HP Smart, Standard Wireless (with a router), using the software installation, and something called "Wi-Fi Direct" (Wireless without a router) on Page 25.  If you do not want to use Wi-Fi Direct and the printer thinks this is turned on (at the printer), things can get weird.

I realize this is pointing you to more reading and little in the way of "Voila!  Here is what the printer wants!"

It might just be a matter of starting over and letting the printer help figure out what to do based on the kind of connection you are making to your network.
