Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

Is there any way to fix a scanner that is squeaking. There does not seem to be a way to access the components of the scanner to even check it for debris. I am on my second HP printer/scanner combo in two years. The first 4650 scanner broke at about a year and now this one seems to be doing the same. Any advice other than replacement.

Hi @Heather904,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A squeaking noise from your HP Desktop 4155e scanner can be quite frustrating, especially if you've experienced similar issues with another unit. The squeaking might indicate a mechanical problem, such as a misaligned or worn part. Here’s a guide to help you troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Check for Debris and Obstructions

  • Power Off and Unplug: Ensure the printer is powered off and unplugged before inspecting it.
  • External Inspection: Look for any visible debris or obstructions around the scanner area. Clean the exterior with a soft, dry cloth.

2. Perform Basic Maintenance

  • Clean the Scanner Glass: Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with glass cleaner to clean the scanner glass. Make sure the glass is completely dry before plugging the device back in.

3. Check the Printer’s Rollers

  • Rollers: The squeaking could be caused by rollers inside the printer. Although accessing the internal parts of the scanner can be challenging, some models allow you to access the rollers through removable covers or trays. Look for any signs of wear or debris on the rollers.

4. Perform a Printer Reset

  • Reset: Sometimes, a reset can resolve issues related to mechanical noises. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to reset the printer to its factory settings.

5. Update Firmware and Drivers

  • Firmware Update: Check for any firmware updates for your printer model on the HP support website. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve hardware issues.
  • Driver Update: Ensure that you have the latest drivers installed for your printer. Outdated drivers can occasionally cause unusual behavior.
  • unable to access or fix the internal components, consider consulting a professional technician. They might be able to open the unit and inspect it for internal issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
