HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've had a lot of other issues (see below) with this printer which I managed to fix by looking up info online but this time I just can't seem to find what is wrong with the printer.

At the moment I'm encountering the issue where the printer (HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer series) gets stuck when trying to scan. The display will just say "scanning" and the circle keeps rotating but nothing happens. It looks pretty similar to this issue.

I've downloaded HP Print and Scan Doctor (version 5.3.1) and when I try to fix the scan problem the software along with the print gets stuck:

Since the software was my last resort I'm out of options. I've already unplugged the power cord as mentioned in some of the other topics and also did a semi-full reset via the system menu but that doesn't seem to solve the problem.

Any help would be much appreciated!

@G-Nuts,

I reviewed your post and I understand that the printer is getting stuck when you try scanning.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

Are you able to make a copy?

Meanwhile, I recommend you update the printer firmware following the steps in the below article and check if it helps.

Hi @The_Fossette,

To be honest I'm not quite sure what I've done but the printer seems to be doing fine now. It all started when the printer got stuck in the print/scan alignment page mode.

I've managed to bypass this by removing one of the cartridges allowing the printer to go into single-cartridge mode which sometimes skipped the alignment page setup and/or by changing some settings in the 'hidden' system menu.

I believe after that the printer no longer showed the alignment page and I first tested the copy function to see whether the scanner worked as expected and it did! After that, I tried scanning which was also successful!

So luckily the printer works again and I didn't have to go through updating everything but I will keep it in mind if I encounter something in the future.

Cheers
