My HP Envy 5546 is connected directly to my Windows 11 PC by USB cable. The printer connects and prints fine, but the scanner says 'no computer found'. The HP Smart app diagnosis says 'no issues found', so I don't know what to do. Any help appreciated!

Hi @Moorster,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP ENVY 5546 is printing but not scanning, especially when connected via USB to a Windows 11 PC, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
Check the Connection:
- Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both your printer and computer.
- Try using a different USB port on your computer.
Restart Devices:
- Turn off your printer and unplug the USB cable.
- Restart your computer.
- Once your computer has rebooted, plug the USB cable back into an alternative USB port and turn on the printer.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your HP ENVY 5546. Ensure that both the printer and scanner drivers are installed.
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool, which can automatically diagnose and resolve many issues related to scanning and printing.
Check the Scanner Software:
- Open the HP Smart app and make sure it is up to date.
- Try using another scanning application (like Windows Scan) to see if the issue is specific to HP Smart.
Check Windows Services:
- Ensure that the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is running:
- Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- In the Services window, scroll down to find “Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)” and ensure it’s running. If not, right-click and select Start.
Firewall and Antivirus Settings:
- Some firewall or antivirus configurations may block scan operations. Temporarily disable these protections to see if it resolves the scanning issue, but be sure to re-enable them afterwards for security purposes.
Test the Scanner:
- Perform a scanner test by opening the HP Scan and Capture or any other scanning software on your PC to initiate a scan directly, bypassing the printer's built-in interface.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
