Hello Sandytechy20,
The operating system is MS Windows 10 x64.
When I use HP Smart, I scan with a Scan Preset of "Document". The scan is saved as a PDF document using Adobe Acrobat.
Then the saved document has Adobe and PDF along the right side.
When I try to scan using HP Envy 4520 control panel, the message on the control panel is "The scan could not be completed. Make sure that the scanning software has been installed and configured on your computer, and then try again." If I unplug the scanner, wait, and plug it back in, then using the printer control panel to select "Scan to Desktop", sometimes it is successful and other times it fails.
Could there be more than one problem?
Thank-you for answering my post and helping me.

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
- Select your HP printer.
- Select Uninstall.
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
- In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
- Click on Drivers tab.
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
- Select OK.
- Remove all instances of the same.
- Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
- Close Devices and Printers.
- Restart the PC again.
Download and install printer full feature driver
