HP Envy 5535 has never scanned

I have never been able to scan with my HP Envy 5535. I simply kept an old Canon printer and used its scan function instead. Now, I am trying again to use the scan function on my HP. It continually says scanning, but never completes.  So disappointed with this all-in-one. Wish I hadn't purchased new ink recently. I would toss this thing. Have tried several things to troubleshoot. It shouldn't be this difficult. I don't expect an answer for this old printer, but came here to mostly vent.

Please use software

            https://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

Once it's downloaded and installed, for Windows 10:

(a) Hit Win key,
(b) Scroll down to HP group/folder,
(c) Double click "HP Scan Extended"

You can put a shortcut on Taskbar or Desktop

Thank you so much! I installed the software. Oddly enough, when I clicked on "HP Extended Scan", it did not display any scanners from which to choose.  I went back and tried to scan the typical way, it worked! Something in the download fixed the problem. Hooray!!!
