Hi @Billselectric ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ENVY 5540 printer has stopped scanning, there are several troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue. Here's a step-by-step guide:

Check Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your computer or network.
  • If you are using a wireless connection, make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.

Restart Printer and Computer:

  • Turn off your printer and computer.
  • Wait for a few minutes, then turn them back on.
  • Try scanning again after the devices have restarted.

Update Drivers:

  • Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your printer. Visit the HP official website, locate your printer model, and download and install the latest drivers.

HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, a free diagnostic tool provided by HP. It can identify and resolve common printing and scanning problems.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that your computer's operating system is up-to-date with the latest updates and patches.

Reinstall the Printer Software:

  • Uninstall the existing printer software from your computer.
  • Download the latest drivers and software from the HP website and reinstall them.

Check Scanner Connection:

  • If your printer has a separate connection for scanning, ensure that it is securely connected.

Paper Jam or Hardware Issues:

  • Check for any paper jams or hardware issues that might be affecting the scanning functionality.

Reset the Printer:

  • Sometimes, resetting the printer to its default settings can resolve issues. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to reset it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
