If your HP ENVY 5640 scanner is not working, try the following steps to resolve the issue:
 

Check Connections: Ensure that all cables connecting the scanner to the computer or network are securely connected. Make sure the printer is powered on.
 

Software Installation: Verify that the necessary printer software is installed on your computer. You need to have the HP printer software installed to enable scanning features.


Enable Scan to Computer:
 

  • Open the HP printer software.
  • Go to the Scan section.
  • Select "Manage Scan to Computer" and make sure the "Enable" option is selected.


Restart Devices: Turn off your printer and computer, then turn them back on. This can often resolve connectivity issues.


Use Embedded Web Server (EWS):
 

  • Access the printer’s embedded web server through its IP address.
  • Enable the Webscan feature from the Administrator settings.


Driver Update: Make sure your printer driver is up-to-date. Visit the Official HP® Support to download the latest drivers for your printer model.


Printer Status: Check the printer’s control panel for any error messages regarding scanned documents or device functionality.


Scanner Settings: Ensure the scanner settings are configured correctly for the type of scan you intend to perform.
