HP Envy 6400 only scans black and white, no matter the settings. Factory reset and reinstalled the printer, but the scanner only does grayscale and B/W scanning anyway. Help?

I see that you are facing an issue with your printer that only scans black and white pages.

Does not have an option to scan in color.

 

To understand the issue and help you, please share the details listed below:

 

- Error messages or Blinking lights (if any) on the unit.

- May I know which application you are using to scan?

- When was the last time your printer was scanning fine in color?

- Were there any changes made to your printer recently?

- May I know which devices are you using to print eg: Windows PC, Mac, or Smartphone (Android or iPhone)?

 

Note: Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

Hi,

Yes, option to scan in color already selected. Also toggled the gray scale and color on and off. Still no color scanned. At best, muted color preview and will still only scan in black and white. 
using both HP Smart and Easy Scan, same result as scanning on web. No luck whatsoever. 
Scanned in color a month ago. 
No change in ink/color settings. 

Mac OS 14, latest update. 
Have removed and downloaded all and any updates. There is no new firmware update to the printer.

Hi @jc8787,

 

I see that you have already performed most of the troubleshooting steps.

Please follow the below steps to fix the issue.

 

A) Perform a power drain.

 

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

 

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware.

 

C) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.

 

D) Refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Have tried all the above as well and still no luck with getting the scanner to work in full color. 

There is no new firmware or software for the model.
