HP Envy 7640 Won't scan from Printer at all or from Laptop to email

Recently my HP Envy 7640 will not scan from the printer. 

The message I get on the printer is the printer could not connect to web services. The server might be busy or temporarily unavailable. Try again later. This has been going on for a week. 

I have tried to reinstall the printer and install all the drivers again, rebooted the laptop and still it won't scan from printer.  I can't even check to see if my email is setup in the printer as I receive the same message when checking setup on the printer.  Not sure if this is related to a windows upgrade or not. 

I can scan from the laptop, but it does not come to my email.  I am not sure where it scans to.  I have looked everywhere, but nothing shows up in my email account.  Any assistance is greatly appreciated.  Never had any issues with this printer at all till now.

This is unfortunately a very common problem lately, it's clearly an issue with the HP Smart app itself.

Please check that your printer is not in the list linked here below

I suspect the HP Smart app is somehow using web services to communicate with the scanner that now aren't supported anymore, you will in fact notice that if you try to scan from the HP smart app, while you are getting the "cannot communicate with the scanner" error, the scanner is actually working.

For the moment I suggest you to use third party software (e.g. Scanner app by Microsoft from Microsoft store if you have Win 10, with that the scanner is working flawlessly) until HP doesn't fix the problem.

I understand you are not able to scan to email and web services are not working on the printer.

Please try the steps below to resolve the issue 

Restart web services:

Click here to know how to turn off web services. Refer to this document to know how to turn it on.

Kindly perform the steps mentioned in this document - Cannot Connect to Web Services

To access the EWS page of the printer,

• Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
• Type the IP address at the top of your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
• If you get any security notification, click on show details/advanced and 'proceed to this website'.
