Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

HP LaserJet Pro MFP M428fdw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

30 years in IT industry, I am very comfortable with drivers, firmware, software, networking configurations, scanning to network locations, etc. Brand new printer, fresh out of the box, 2-days old.

The problem: 2-sided scanning using the ADF and the printer’s control panel, produces scans with odd-number pages skewed slightly. Even number pages are fine. Glass single scan are fine. (Support tech, please do not tell me to clean the glass with Windex, like one of you just did.)

Interestingly, the following recipe vastly improves the skewing of odd pages:

HP Scan desktop.
“Scan” tab, Page Orientation section: “Auto Orient”
“Document” tab, “Straighten Content”: ON

It appears, then, that either the issue is software-related, or if it is hardware-related it can be corrected with software.

The ability to scan directly from the printer (and in our case send scans to network folders) is very important to our workflow. Initiating scan jobs is not always convenient to us.

Unfortunately, there are no “Auto Orient” and “Straighten ON” settings in Quick sets, which can be called from the printer’s panel.

Anyone knows if there is a fix to this? Are we having a hardware problem here, justifying the request of a replacement?

Notably, scans through HP Scan are also much better quality (with same resolution, color, etc. settings.) I am baffled as to why HP didn’t install the same drivers/routines on the printer itself, allowing proper scans from the printer’s panel too.

Thank you

What about copying originals? That will eliminate hardware from software issues.

Some skew is tolerated.

How much is the skew on the A4 sheet in mm?

ADF duplex copy function produces copies within an acceptable margin of skew.

ADF duplex scanning produces scans with around 5mm slant down on the top far right side, compared to the top far left side. It appears this is not consistent. On some odd pages the slant is more. The difference from my last tests is that now even pages are skewed too, but on the flip side, compared to odd pages.

I have initiated a return procedure for this unit and have ordered a second unit, exact same one. However, I am concerned this might be a software issue related to on-board ADF duplex scanning that may persist even on the new copy.

Can someone with the same model please confirm they can replicate this issue on their unit?

Thank you all.

Request a replacement, I hate to say it but the ADF they use on the 400 series products are disappointing. For enterprise applications a 500 series product is the minimum we will install for clients.
