Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am helping a friend with his somewhat new HP OfficeJet 2010.    The issue is that it scans fine but when you click Save the only options are Basic PDF and Image.   We need a Save as Editable Text option.  I read pages 66-67 of the user manual which said that if you do not have a Save as Editable Text option then to remove the HP Smart program and reinstall it.  So I have done this and downloaded it from the Microsoft Store.  There is still NO option to Save as Editable Text.    Please tell me what to do.

I also came across something on line that referenced Hp Smart Advance and it implied that you had to have this software in order to scan as editable text and I assume pay a monthly fee.  However, I cannot find anywhere to download Hp Smart Advance.  Please help.  Thanks.

Hi @Paula7928,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're encountering limitations with the scanning options provided by HP Smart software for your OfficeJet 2010. The ability to save scanned documents as editable text typically requires OCR (Optical Character Recognition) functionality, which converts scanned images of text into editable text.

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue.

  • Verify OCR Functionality: Ensure that the OCR functionality is supported by your printer model. Sometimes, lower-end models might not have this feature. Check the specifications of your HP OfficeJet 2010 to confirm if it supports OCR.
  • Check HP Smart Settings: Within the HP Smart software, look for any settings related to OCR or saving scanned documents as editable text. There might be an option to enable this feature within the software settings.
  • Alternative Software: If HP Smart doesn't provide the desired functionality, consider using alternative scanning software that supports OCR. Adobe Acrobat, for example, is a popular choice for converting scanned documents into editable text.

Regarding HP Smart Advance, it's possible that this is a premium version of HP Smart software that offers advanced features like enhanced OCR capabilities. However, if you can't find information about it or download it, it might not be available in your region or for your specific printer model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
