HP OfficeJet 4655 All-in-One Printer

Unit no longer scans, either through webscan or HP Smart, although I used to use the scanner without issue just a few months ago.  Issue may have coincided with upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11.  Unit still prints and copies fine.  Web services and EWS are enabled.  Printer status is a go, all cables connected, have disconnected/reconnected power and USB cables, have restarted computer, have updated software and drivers.  How do I get the scan to work?

When attempting webscan, the scanner mechanism functions (moves), but the tab opened in Windows stays blank - no output seen.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP Officejet 4655 printer unit no longer scans after upgrading to Windows 11, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:

Update Software and Drivers:

  • Ensure you have the latest software and drivers compatible with Windows 11. Check for updates from the HP website.

Verify Connections:

  • Confirm that all cables (power and USB) are securely connected.
  • Disconnect and reconnect both the USB and power cables.

Check System Preferences and Scanner Settings:

  • Open the HP Smart app or HP printer software and verify the scanner settings are correctly configured.
  • For HP Smart:
    • Open the HP Smart app, select your printer, and navigate to the scan settings.
  • For HP Printer Software:
    • Open the printer software from the Windows Start menu, and go to the Scan section.

Webscan Settings:

  • Ensure that Webscan is enabled in the Embedded Web Server (EWS):
    • Open EWS using your browser by typing the printer’s IP address in the address bar.
    • Navigate to the Settings tab, and then select Administrator Settings.
    • Confirm that Webscan is enabled.

Windows Compatibility Settings:

  • Run the scanner software in Windows 10 compatibility mode:
    • Right-click on the HP scanning software icon.
    • Select Properties.
    • Go to the Compatibility tab.
    • Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select Windows 10.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
