HP Officejet 5740 Duplex Tray not working

I understand the duplex tray on your HP OfficeJet 5740 e-All-in-One Printer isn't working, here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
 

1. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

  • Open the duplexer (the back part of the printer) to ensure there are no paper jams or obstructions. Remove any paper that may be stuck inside.
  • Make sure the paper is loaded correctly in the input tray and is not misaligned.

2. Check the Printer Settings

  • On your macOS 10.15 Catalina, ensure that the duplex printing option is enabled in the print settings.
    1. Open the document you want to print.
    2. Go to File > Print.
    3. In the print dialog box, click on Show Details.
    4. Under Layout, make sure Two-Sided or Duplex Printing is selected.

3. Update Printer Drivers

  • Ensure your printer drivers are up-to-date. Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for macOS 10.15 Catalina.
  • After updating, restart the printer and your Mac to see if the duplex feature starts working.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it back on. This can help reset any issues with the duplexer mechanism.

5. Check Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Check if your printer has the latest firmware update installed. Sometimes, firmware updates fix bugs or improve functionality.
    1. Go to the HP Printer Assistant or use the HP Smart app on your Mac.
    2. Check for firmware updates in the settings.

6. Test Duplex Printing

  • Try printing a document with duplex printing enabled to ensure the printer is recognizing the duplex tray and printing both sides.
