My HP Officejet Printer ADF rolls fine but isn't capturing the document image. Goes through with no problem but I keep getting an error message that says the document feeder was not able to pick up the original.

Hi @elidaz,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Officejet 6812 is having issues with the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) not capturing the document image while the rollers are working fine, you can try the following troubleshooting steps.

Check for Jammed Paper:

  • Ensure there are no jammed paper pieces in the ADF or printer that could be obstructing the scanning process.

Clean the ADF Rollers:

  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water to gently wipe the ADF rollers. Dirt and debris can cause feeding issues.

Inspect the ADF Sensor:

  • Make sure the ADF sensor (usually located near the rollers) is clean and free of obstructions. Dust or smudges can prevent it from detecting documents.

Check Document Type and Size:

  • Ensure that the documents you're trying to scan meet the printer's specifications (size, weight, and thickness). The ADF may not pick up documents that are too thin or too thick.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 60 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP website and install them.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, which can help identify and fix scanning issues.

Try a Different Scanning Method:

  • If the ADF continues to malfunction, try scanning using the flatbed scanner as a temporary solution.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
