When I try to open the HP Printer Assistant I recive an error message box msha.exe - Bad Image -C:\Windows\system32\wshom.ocx is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error.

When I close the box a script error message appears.

I have tried uninstalliing and reinstalling the printer and drivers.

Welcome to HP forums, I see that you are getting HP Printer Assistant script error.

Follow the below steps to fix this issue.

Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor

Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor to automatically diagnose and resolve printer hardware and connection issues.

Install the software patch manually.

  1. On your computer, click the Windows icon (), and then click Run.

  2. In the Run dialog box, type regedit, and then click OK. The Registry Editor window opens.

  3. Click File, and then click Export. The Export Registry File window opens.

  4. From the Save in: dropdown menu, select Desktop.

  5. In the File name: box, type backup.

  6. In the Save as type: dropdown menu, select Registration Files (*.reg).

  7. For Export range, select All, and then click Save.

    NOTE:

You can delete this file once the issue has been resolved.

  8. On your computer, click the Start icon (), click Accessories, and then click Notepad. A Notepad window opens.

  9. Copy the following text, and then paste it in Notepad.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htafile]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.hta] "PerceivedType"="text" @="htafile" "Content Type"="application/hta"

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htafile\Shell]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htafile\Shell\Open]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htafile\Shell\Open\Command] @="C:\\Windows\\System32\\mshta.exe \"%1\" %*"

Hi Sandytechy20,

Thanks for your assistance.

I previousy tried to apply the suggested software patch to no avail.  I've just tried again, this time I received a Registry Editor message:

Cannot import C:\Users\...\Desktop\Fix_hta.reg:The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor.

Have I gone wrong somewhere?
