Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

Hi all,

I recently bought an HP Laserjet MFP3101fdw. My computer is an iMac running OS 15.6.1 (Sequoia).

When using the HP App, after selecting SCAN, the software requests the destination directory. I created a new directory and ensured that privileges are set for Everyone, including up/down directories. The OPEN button in the lower right NEVER activates, regardless whether I select the default directory or create and select my own destination directory.

I'm wondering is this has anything to do with the problem I'm having with trying to scan in duplex from my computer, saved earlier in this community?

Hi @Wingkeel,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for your patience. Based on the latest findings, here’s what’s going on with your HP LaserJet MFP3101fdw and macOS 15.6.1 (Sequoia):

Issue 1: HP Smart App – “Open” Button Not Activating

This is a known bug in HP Smart version 15.0.1 on macOS. It prevents users from saving scans to folders because the “Open” button stays greyed out, even when a valid directory is selected.

Fix: Update HP Smart App

  • Go to the Mac App Store and update HP Smart to version 15.1.1 or later
  • This resolves the folder selection issue and re-enables scan saving.

Issue 2: Duplex Scanning Not Available

The HP LaserJet MFP3101fdw on macOS Sequoia reports that duplex scanning is not offered in the HP Smart app, even though the printer supports it

Workarounds:

  1. Use Image Capture (built-in macOS app):
    • Open Image Capture from Applications.
    • Select your printer and choose the Document Feeder as the source.
    • If duplex is supported, it may appear under scan options.

  2. Check Privacy & Security Settings:
    • Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network.
    • Ensure HP Scanner 3 and HP Device Monitor are toggled ON

  3. Disable Firewall Temporarily:
    • Go to System Settings > Network > Firewall.
    • Turn it off to allow full communication between your Mac and printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
