Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).
Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended
HP1315 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

After downloading HP Scan extended (because Flash Player closed and HP Solution Center was rendered useless) it would not save any images.

The solution offered was to double-click on the hpiscnapp.exe file (in C:\Program Files(x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin) and yes, it brought up the "old" screen I was used to in HP Solution Center, well almost the old screen, but not quite. Great solution and glad to have my scan facility back! I created a shortcut for easy access.

But, it is slightly different. With HP Solution Center, I could scan multiple pages and save as one document. There does not seem to be the option to scan multiple pages, despite having the option to "Scan New Pictures" (top left) and "Final Images" i.e. Plural ..... more than one !!...... (bottom right) indicating multiple pages, right?

Question: Can this scan more than one page like the old HP Solution Center could?

Ignore the image ghost - images must be accepted before they are available for public view.

I'm not at all sure I understand what you are doing.

I am not familiar with the old HP Scan display - it might be clear to someone who uses the old tools.

The subject line says "HP Scan Extended".

Your comments seem to say you are using HP Scan.

The (ghost) image is titled (in the image graphic) as "HP Scanning"

OK.

Whatever you are using - the image of "HP Scanning" seems to indicate you are scanning images / pictures of what appears to be text (part of a document?) and then saving those image files as.. what?  A single image file that contains all the images?

If this is the case, I believe HP Scan (if this is what you are using) can certainly combine the images into one file.  It is actually more common for people to want the opposite in fact - that is, to place a bunch of images on the printer screen near one another > scan and save each image as a separate file.

If you are using HP Scan (for some odd reason named "HP Scanning in the image), then the same holds true - combining images into one larger image / photo file was always (usually) the default.  The selection for the action would not likely be located in the edit / crop sub-menu.

What else?

Normally, HP Scan Extended can accomplish either one of these tasks:

Save a multiple page document (PDF) or save several images / photos placed on the printer glass.

Remember that HP Scan Extended is dependent on the Solution Center software having been installed.

HP Scan Extended, like HP Scan, can be called alone from a shortcut or from the installed source folder.

None of the HP Scan Extended software versions I have used look anything at all like what you are using - I cannot imagine where the setting is located - but it is not in the selection sub-menu you show in the (ghost) image.

Thanks Dragon-Fur for your detailed reply. Much appreciated.

1. The two ghost images in my message are Screenshots. It would be useful if you were able to see them. To me, they are the old HP Solutions Center software - it looks like the same tool I have been using since +/- 2004 when I bought the printer (a fantastic little printer btw which still prints and copies ....... but does not scan anymore......since Jan 2021 with the flash player issue).

I pasted the image twice because when I saw the first one was a ghost image, I thought I had done something wrong, so tried again.

2. HP Scan

OK, so yes, it is HP Scan (not HP Scan Extended) that I am not having success with. It opens and I place a document on the printer glass and press "scan". The printer / scanner goes through the motions as if scanning, but once complete, all the buttons are greyed-out, including the "save" button. Only the "Back" and "Exit" buttons are available (not grey). The scanned document in not in the target folder ......... it is not saved.

Then yesterday, I came across your advice to someone else in February this year, who had the very same issue (greyed out buttons) You provided a solution in which you advise ........

"C:\Program Files 9x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\ bin\

Find and Double-click on Scan file name/ executable

For example

hpiscnapp.exe

OR

hpqkygrp.exe"

So I followed those steps, double-clicked on hpiscnapp.exe (I also added a shortcut to make it easily accessible)

What came up was the scanning facility that I have been familiar with all these years, what I think you have called "the old tools" and what I probably call HP Solutions Center.....and once again, would be useful if the screenshots were viewable.

Nevertheless, it looks exactly like HP Solution Center, EXCEPT, that it does not have the "add page" button which allowed me to scan multiple pages (by placing each one separately on the glass and scanning one at a time) and have ONE pdf with multiple pages. This "version" does not have the add page facility allowing multiple pages to be collated into one pdf. It works which is great, for ONE page at a time, but does not have the option to add a page and so scan multiple pages into one document. This is what prompted my question post.

3. I saw HP Scan and Capture from Microsoft (as another workaround for the flash player issue) but MS "discovered no microsoft programs on my computer" and as such I wasn't eligible. I use freeware Excel, powerpoint and Word programs and Thunderbird as my email client (tired of paying ZAR1000 / year for MSOffice)

To summarise:

1. I wouldn't mind using HP Scan if it worked.

2. I followed your suggested course of action (as I set out above) and what came up was the "old tool / HP Solutions Center" software.

I hope this has made things a bit clearer?

Note: I have the full HP Printing suite (334MB) software on my machine  ( AIO_CDB_NonNet_Full_Win_WW_140_408-4 (1).exe)

Thanks again for your assistance.

Apologies - I mishandled the wording.

Most Experts can see images before they are released to public view.

Not everyone can do so; it is a matter of having access to the source.

Edits / Update

Apologies - too many windows open and I mixed up the reference to the printer model with another thread.

Rats.

OK..

Checking.

The Full Feature Software is still available for your Printer / OS version.

Same "old" software, of course - but it might be useful to try and uninstall it from Programs and Features and reinstall.

The Basics - Standard - Reinstall Full Feature Software

Printer Software

  • Uninstall the existing printer software from Programs and Features
  • Restart the computer and log in

Next

  • If using USB, disconnect the USB cable between the printer and the computer before starting the installation.  Connect the cable when instructed to do so (toward the end of the installation procedure).

  • Download and Save the printer installation package for the “Full driver

Software web page here:

HP PSC 1310 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers

Next

  • Navigate to the folder in which you saved the software installation package (likely Downloads)
  • Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
  • Reminder:  If using USB > Connect the USB cable when instructed (toward the end of the installation)
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Next..

If this is indeed "Solution Center" software, then the main menu won't open due to the loss of Flash (January 2021).

That said,

Reloading the software might sort the issue with the software not being able to "add pages" using HP Scan.

Odd that you cannot grab HP Scan and Capture from the Microsoft Store.

It says it is compatible with Windows 8.x

Rats.

You need a new printer.  Smiling.

Yes, I know...

Kudos for trying to use the tech you have.

Oh - one more thing...

Windows can really chew on printer software and other software.

One thing that generally works - and everyone hates - reload Windows.

OK - now I'm out of ideas for the moment.

Hi Dragon-Fur,

Thanks for your ongoing support.

Ok, I have uninstalled the existing HP software, downloaded the full package (326.2MB) following your link, and installed it on my machine.

I then accessed the Scanning Facility via hpiscnapp.exe (as per a thread from Feb 2021, in which you advise another forum member). Doesn't seem to have made a change - see screenshot. Looks as it does before, so no multiple-page scanning available....bummer ...... but at least I can do one page at a time.

HP Scan and Capture

Microsoft says that I "don't have a any applicable device(s) linked to your Microsoft account". A year ago, I binned my MSOffice365 subscription and moved to open source Excel, Word and Powerpoint (Softmaker) and I use Thunderbird as email client. So, I am not a Microsoft customer......apparently.......despite running Microsoft Windows 8.1 OS (doesn't that make me a Microsoft customer eligible for HP scan and Capture? ........he asked hopefully)

New Printer

This little beauty is 16 years old and still works perfectly! No need to replace it, especially in the cash-strapped world I inhabit 🙂

Reloading Windows

My "tech" skills don't go very far.........so reloading the OS won't happen with me behind the controls, lol!

Question for another thread which I will log

I have changed an ink cartridge and the Alignment page prints every single time I power up the printer! Previously, Solutions Center would pop up, instruct me to place the Alignment page on the glass, and it would do it's alignment-thing and that would be "it" till the next cartridge change. Now without Solutions Center banished to the cyber-cemetery, this page will torment me in the absence of a solution.

Thanks

Ken

Document Scanning

I cannot understand why the HP Scan printer software - even printer software of this vintage - thinks a multiple page document (PDF Scan) is a scan of "Pictures".  Not sure what it should be doing - this does not seem right.  The software job type should be "Save to PDF" or some variation of the name.

That said...

That I don't understand it means nothing, of course.  I do not remember the Solutions Center software except that it was what we had "back when".  Printing software and printers have come a long way in the many years since.

Not sure about whether you must be a Microsoft customer - you certainly must be signed into the Store using your Microsoft Account - that is not something you can avoid if you want to use Microsoft products.  Your OS is Microsoft even as it's unsupported.

As to reloading the OS - no, I'd not reload Windows 8.x unless I could not worm my way free of the need to do so.

It's not doing what you want - I can see that.

One idea - yes, could work - no, not a magic wand.

If the software is OK (in spite if it not knowing you are scanning a document),

If the printer is confused,

Restarting the printer from the power source might help.

This is a min-Reset that clears any detritus from the printer memory and lets it start (boot) fresh.

Printer Turns Off Unexpectedly or Repeatedly

Step 2 - Restart the Printer

Check Step 4 - Plug the printer directly into a power outlet

What else?

There are many threads on this subject in the Community - one of more of these might offer practical advice amidst the shouting and outrage.

I will take a look in my old notes - if I find something that might be useful, I'll post back.
