Why the logon requirement for using HP Smart?  Since that implementation, my scanner is no longer working although the print function is.  I downloaded all new drivers, etc. 

What was the business purpose for this change to HP Smart as an online app versus accessible from my PC?   This additional process has completely made my work more inefficient, difficult to access functions, and the ridiculous verification process for a simple request to use MY OWN equipment is insulting.

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

 

True - HP Smart requires that you sign into the application using your HP credentials.

The requirement was implemented for most regions at the end of 2020.

 

In most every case when using Windows, HP Smart is optional.

Instead, install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software for your printer.

Printer Software - Full Feature Software

 

Go another way...

 

If your computer is running a supported version of Windows,

Consider installing the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software.

Doing so does not fix HP Smart -- the full driver does provide tools to use your printer for scan and print.

 

Full Feature Software includes access to the printer features.

At least Two shortcuts are added to the Desktop:

Printer Assistant > Print, Scan, Tools -- The Desktop shortcut is named for the Printer.

HP Scan > Scan to PDF, Photo, Email -- The Desktop shortcut is named for the Printer.

 

Installing the HP full driver printer software (also) provides a foundation that supports installing and using additional software and applications, including those programs and applications that are capable of providing features and options not available in the HP software.

Printer - Full Feature Software - Install

 

If you have not done so, consider

 

If the software is already installed and you want to "reinstall":

Uninstall the printer software from Programs and Features

Restart the computer and log in

Check that all the pieces of the printer software have been removed - if anything is deleted, Restart computer and log in

 

Next,

Download, Save, (then) Install new copy of the printer software

After the software in installed, Restart the computer and log in

 

NOTE:

In this instance, the printer model was not provided.

Reloading software?

Look for the Installation Package for your printer and your Operating System / version

 

For example - for a supported printer model and a supported version of Windows

Find, Download-Save-Install

 

  • Open your printer Home Page > Support Website   
  • Open Category Software and Drivers 

 

  • Check for the Installation package:  In main level, in “Installation Software…” (names vary), and in Software-Utility
  • The title  of the package might include the words “Full Feature”, “Full Solution”, “Print and Scan Driver”, or similar wording.
