Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

HP Color LaserJet MFP M283fdw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP Color LaserJet MFP M283fdw that I'm trying to do full duplex scanning.  I downloaded and installed LJM282-M285_UWWL_4_1_Full_WebPack_44.6.2710.exe, but when I run the Scan a Document or Photo I get a prompt that says my printer was not found.

In the Print section of the application, I am able to view the print status and print a test page.  From the HP Smart app I am able to scan, but only one sided.  What am I missing to get the full duplex scanning working?

Restart the Computer and try again? Do you've this Printer connected to any other Computer?

@joelday

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Thanks for the list of things to try.  I went through each step but I am still getting the same error.  It is only with the "Scan a Document or Photo" option that I get that error.  When I click "Scan to Network Folder Wizard" it launches and I am able to setup Network Scanning.

Is there any way to check and see where the app is looking to find the printer?  It is a network attached printer with a static IP address.  Printing works fine, and I can scan from the HP Smart App just fine.

I want to do double sided scanning, and the HP Smart App doesn't do that (or does it?)

Thanks for the reply.  The printer is connected to the network, so my work computer also has connectivity.  I will try and install the app from there.

Just to follow up on this, the other device worked perfectly.  IDK why my home computer is not connecting, but my laptop worked fine.

Did you uninstall and reinstall the HP Smart App and try?
