HP Scanjet Pro 3000 s4 - orange error light showing and won't clear. I've checked for any paper jams, checked the internal rollers, and power cycled multiple times (all connections removed). What else can be checked?

Hi @Debra02639 ,

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Scanjet Pro 3000 s4 is displaying an orange error light and the usual troubleshooting steps have not resolved the issue, here are a few additional steps you can try:

  1. Check for Software or Driver Issues:

    • Ensure that your scanner software and drivers are up to date. Visit the HP Support website to download the latest drivers and software updates for your scanner model.
  2. Roller and Maintenance Kit:

    • Inspect the rollers and maintenance kit for any signs of wear and tear. Make sure they are installed correctly and replace them if they are worn out.
  3. Reset the Scanner:

    • Perform a hard reset by unplugging the scanner from the power source and leaving it unplugged for at least 15 minutes before reconnecting it. This can sometimes clear persistent error messages.
  4. Check the Scanner Glass and Clean It:

    • Open the scanner and gently clean the scanner glass with a lint-free cloth and a mild glass cleaner. Ensure that no residue or dust is left on the glass surface.
  5. Check for Firmware Updates:

    • Look for any available firmware updates for your scanner model on the HP Support website. Firmware updates can resolve known issues and improve scanner functionality.
  6. Check the HP ScanJet Utility (Diagnostic)

    • The orange light is a generic indicator; the software provides the specific code.

      • Action:

        1. Connect the USB cable to the PC.

        2. Open the HP ScanJet Utility (or "HP Scanner Tools Utility") on your computer.

        3. Look at the Status tab.

        4. Crucial: Does it say "Paper Jam," "Door Open," or "Hardware Error"?

          • If "Door Open": It is a physical latch issue (see Step 1).

          • If "Paper Jam": It is a dirty sensor (see Step 2).

          • If "Hardware Error": This usually indicates a motherboard or motor failure.

Hope this helps resolve your issue.
