Hi @rbflorida,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
If your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e All-in-One printer is suddenly showing that it does not have scanning capabilities after an iOS update, this could be due to a software or compatibility issue caused by the update. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem:
1. Restart Printer and iOS Device
- Power Cycle the Printer: Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Restart iOS Device: Restart your iPhone or iPad to refresh the system and any connections to the printer.
2. Update the HP Smart App
- Check for App Updates: Go to the App Store and check if there’s an update available for the HP Smart app. If there is, update the app and see if the issue persists.
- Reinstall the HP Smart App: If updating doesn’t help, try uninstalling and then reinstalling the HP Smart app.
3. Check Printer Connection
- Verify Printer Connection: Ensure that your printer is still connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iOS device. If there are any connection issues, reconnect the printer to the network.
- Use Bluetooth: Sometimes, reconnecting via Bluetooth (if available) can help re-establish the connection. Go to Settings > Bluetooth on your iOS device and see if your printer is listed. If not, try pairing it again.
4. Check Printer Firmware
- Update Printer Firmware: Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check and update it through the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP website:
- Go to HP Software and Driver Downloads.
- Enter your printer model and download any available firmware updates.
- Install the firmware update via the app or by using a USB flash drive.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @rbflorida,
Please find the next steps below.
5. Use an Alternative Scanning App
- Try a Different App: If the HP Smart app is still not recognizing the scanner, try using a different scanning app like Apple’s Files app or Google Drive, which have built-in scanning capabilities.
6. Reset Printing System on iOS
- Remove and Re-add Printer: Go to Settings > Bluetooth or Wi-Fi on your iOS device, remove the printer, and then add it again. This can sometimes refresh the connection and resolve issues.
7. Check for iOS Compatibility Issues
- Check for iOS Updates: Sometimes, new iOS versions can have bugs. Go to Settings > General > Software Update on your iOS device to see if there’s a new update that might fix any issues.
- Check HP Support: Visit the HP support page to see if there are any known issues with the latest iOS version and your printer model.
8. Use a Computer to Test Scanning
- Test with a Computer: If possible, try scanning using a computer that’s connected to the printer. This can help determine if the issue is with the printer or just the iOS device.
9. Reset the Printer to Factory Settings
- Reset Printer: As a last resort, you can reset your printer to factory settings:
- On the printer's control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.
By following these steps, you should be able to restore scanning functionality on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e All-in-One printer with your iOS device.
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, consider contacting HP Support for assistance.
