Hi All

When using Smart Scan with Smart Tank 7005 on Mac Sonoma 14.3 any attempt to edit document forces Smart Scan to crash.

I have checked:

Latest version of Sonoma

Latest version Smart Scan App

Printer firmware uptodate.

I have tried removing printer, scanner apps rebooted mac

Ensured all evidence of HP apps removed.

Re-installed printer, HP smart and Smart Scan 2

Still crashes as soon as you try and edit any scanned document

Hi @davidjill2018,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already taken several troubleshooting steps to address the issue with Smart Scan crashing when attempting to edit a scanned document on your Mac Sonoma 14.3 with the HP Smart Tank 7005 All-In-One. Despite your efforts, the problem persists.

Here are a few additional steps you might consider:

Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove the USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till the warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

  • Check for System Updates: Make sure your Mac Sonoma is fully updated with the latest version of macOS. Sometimes, system updates can resolve compatibility issues with third-party software like HP Smart Scan.
  • Check for HP Driver Updates: Even if your printer firmware is up to date, there may be new driver updates available for your HP Smart Tank 7005. Visit the HP website or use the HP Smart app to check for any available updates specifically for your printer model. Software and Drivers for HP Smart Tank 7005 All-in-One please Use Mac OS 14
  • Check for macOS Compatibility: Ensure that the HP Smart Scan app is fully compatible with macOS Sonoma 14.3. You can check the HP Smart Scan app's system requirements  please Use Mac OS 14

Hi thanks for response,

I had already power cycled printer, uninstalled and re installed.

The software is controlled by HP Smart and all software and firmware is up to date.

I again followed your instructions and again no change.

Please advise

Did the HP Support Agent find a resolution? If so, what was it?

I've got an Hp laserjetpro mfp4101dw/fdw and the hp easy scan and hp smart stopped working after a software update. The printer can work on other mobile apps but not the mac ap. The mac is a sonoma 14.5 after update and now it does not open properly and can not be found in the finder either. When using the printer and scanner through the settings option, the printer and scanner worked, but through your hp app it only works on mobile. When instructing the printer to scan from the printer itself, it also doesn't scan, the only way to get it to scan is from the printer settings option itself inside the apple mac settings. Please provide product solutions and instructions asap.
