HP Smart - Scanning is unavailable - Scanning does work via Win Fax&Scan

Another issues with seemingly no resolution... Using HP Smart, I am unable to scan. Clicking on the Scan tile sends me to a page declaring "Scanning is Unavailable". I have Repaired and later Reset the app, neither did anything. Windows Fax&Scan works but its annoying. Is there any fix for this or is it no longer possible to Scan via the HP Smart app.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:  

Firstly, let's update the printer's firmware, refer - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

If the issue persists, follow the next steps. Uninstall the app from your Windows 10 device through the All Apps list.

1. In Windows, search for and open Apps & features.
2. Click HP Smart in the list of apps, and then click Uninstall.

And, install HP smart app from here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04675142

By Now, I suspect HP realizes that HP Smart, isn't. At least I hope they do.

I reinstalled the HP Smart app... not once but twice, thinking perhaps I wasn't being smart... no luck. Still couldn't scan.

Downloaded HP Print & Scan Doctor, but apparently the doctor couldn't find the problem.

Finally, found HP Scan Extended... woohoo!  now I can scan! Its an older app but it works and actually is easier to use.
