Microsoft Windows 11

The HP Smart app has recently just sopped opening on my HP laptop.  It's very strange.  When my wife signs on to the same laptop with her ID, it works for her, but it won't open on my ID.  We've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, turning both the computer and printer off and on, searched on-line for answers, but can't figure this out.

Any help is much appreciated.

@GaryRich, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Since HP Smart opens fine on your wife’s Windows account but not yours, the issue is isolated to your user profile, not the app or printer itself. Let’s go through steps that reset HP Smart and Windows app permissions for your account only.

End all HP Smart processes:

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.

Look for any HP Smart entries under Processes → select → End task.

Clear HP Smart app cache (per user):

Press Windows + R, type:

Find the folder AD2F1837.HPInc.HPSmart_xxxxx.

Rename it to something like HPSmart_old (this forces Windows to recreate it).

Repair or Reset HP Smart:

Go to Settings → Apps → Installed apps → HP Smart → Advanced options.

Click Repair first. If that doesn’t fix it, click Reset.

Open HP Smart again — it should start normally or prompt for sign-in.

Run Windows App Troubleshooter:

Go to Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters.

Find Windows Store Apps → Run.

Let it detect and fix any permissions or registry issues with HP Smart.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
